All About CBD Edibles: What Are They And How Do They Work

CBD edibles have quickly become one of the most popular ways to enjoy the benefits of CBD. This doesn't surprise us since edibles are a convenient and tasty way to incorporate CBD into your daily routine—whether you're new to CBD or an experienced consumer.
In this guide, we’ll explore what CBD edibles are, how they work, how they compare to THC edibles, and why choosing high-quality CBD products from trusted CBD companies—like Treadwell Farms—makes all the difference.
What Are CBD Edibles?
CBD edibles are food products infused with Cannabidiol (CBD), a naturally occurring compound found in hemp plants. Unlike CBD tinctures or topicals, edibles are consumed orally and absorbed through the digestive system. (Tinctures are also ingested orally, but they are absorbed sublingually, rather than solely through your digestive system.)
Edible CBD products range from gummies and chocolates to baked goods and even beverages. One of the biggest draws of edibles is how easy they are to take—no droppers, no measuring, just a delicious and discreet way to enjoy CBD on the go.
Most CBD edibles, like those we make at Treadwell Farms, are crafted using hemp-derived CBD that contains less than 0.3% THC and is legal at the federal level in the United States. When you see terms like “hemp edibles” or “edible CBD,” they typically refer to this class of products.
What's the Difference Between CBD and THC Edibles?
CBD and THC are both cannabinoids, but they affect the body very differently. The main difference? THC is intoxicating, meaning it can cause euphoric effects, while CBD is non-intoxicating and does not cause impairment.
Treadwell Farms’ full-spectrum CBD contains at most the .3% THC found in the live hemp plant. Retaining this trace amount of THC (alongside all of the other cannabinoids that make up the plant’s natural profile) allows our CBD to support the synergistic benefits of the entourage effect.
Some products, like our Relief CBD Gummies, combine CBD and an equal amount of THC for a balanced 1:1 ratio. With these products, the effects of THC can be more pronounced.

How Do CBD Edibles Work?
To understand how CBD edibles work, it's helpful to know a bit about the endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS is a complex system found in all animals that helps regulate many important functions like mood, sleep, appetite, and immune response.
When you consume a CBD edible, the CBD is absorbed through your digestive tract and eventually interacts with your ECS. This process takes longer than sublingual or inhalation delivery methods, but the effects also tend to last longer—often 4 to 8 hours, depending on the individual.
Because of this delayed onset, it’s a good idea to start with a low dose and wait at least 1–2 hours before deciding whether to take more.
Are There Benefits of CBD Edibles?
People choose edibles over other CBD products for a variety of reasons. If you have sensitive lungs, CBD inhalation methods may not be an option for you. Tinctures offer fast CBD delivery, but they also require more care when transporting (they’re typically packaged in glass bottles) and at-use measured dosing. Also, since CBD can be added to different types of food or beverage products, you can enjoy edibles in many forms and flavors.
Some of the benefits of CBD edibles include:
-
Ease of use – No measuring or guessing, just a consistent, pre-packaged dose.
-
Longer-lasting effects – Effects typically last longer than other delivery methods.
-
Discreet consumption – Easy to take at home, at work, or while traveling.
-
Taste – Edibles are designed to taste great.
You can easily incorporate CBD edibles into your daily wellness routines. Many people find that daily CBD boosts their concentration and energy levels throughout the day and helps balance stress responses. CBD supports better sleep cycles and may provide relief from inflammation symptoms.
Different Types of CBD Edibles
There’s a wide variety of edible CBD products on the market today, each offering something a little different. With so many options to choose from, it's easy to find a way to fit edible CBD into your routine, even if you have food sensitivities or allergies.
Here are some of the most common CBD edibles:
-
CBD Gummies – The most popular type of hemp edibles, CBD gummies are known for their convenience and great taste.
-
CBD Chocolates and Baked Goods – Sweet treats with a relaxing twist!
-
CBD Beverages – Infused teas, coffees, smoothies, sparkling water, and more.
-
CBD Capsules or Softgels – Technically edible, though less fun than a gummy, and a good choice if you have a strict diet but still want the benefits of edible CBD. (Tip: Many Treadwell Farms customers that use our tinctures put their dose in softgels for exact measurements).
Treadwell Farms offers a curated collection of handcrafted CBD edibles, made with care and transparency every step of the way. We only use high-quality, full-spectrum CBD oil and natural ingredients to provide you with the best CBD edibles, straight from our Florida farm!
Recipes for Homemade CBD Edibles
Prefer a DIY approach? It’s easy to add CBD to your favorite snacks or meals using a high-quality tincture. Just be mindful of temperature (too much heat can break down cannabinoids) and always measure your dosage carefully.
Enjoy a relaxing and delicious weekend breakfast with our CBD Blueberry Pancakes. Pro tip: make extras to reheat on weekdays!
Glen’s Favorite Cookies (with a CBD Twist) are a sweet family favorite. They’re packed with oats, cranberry, and orange for a flavorful cookie that you can enjoy at home or on-the-go.

Cooking with CBD gives you complete control over your dosage and allows for fun experimentation in the kitchen.
CBD Edibles FAQ for First-Time Users
New to CBD edibles? Here are some of the most frequently asked questions we receive from our customers.
How long do CBD edibles take to kick in? CBD edibles typically take 30 minutes to 2 hours to take effect, depending on your metabolism, the type of edible, and whether you've eaten recently.
How long do the effects last? Many people find that the effects of CBD edibles last 4 to 8 hours, making them a good option for sustained support throughout the day.
How much CBD should I take? If you’re just starting out, begin with a low dose (5–10 mg) and gradually increase as needed. Everyone’s body responds differently, which is why we recommend you start low and go slow.
Will CBD edibles make me feel “high?” No, CBD is non-intoxicating and will not produce euphoric effects. Users who are very highly sensitive to THC may experience a more pronounced relaxation from full-spectrum CBD even though it only contains .3% THC. You may feel the effects of THC more in our 1:1 Relief Gummies, which have equal amounts of CBD and THC. (Tip: You can always start with a quarter or a half of a gummy to see what works best for you)
Can I take CBD edibles daily? Yes! Many people take CBD edibles as part of their regular wellness routines. Just be consistent and listen to your body.
Will CBD edibles show up on a drug test? While full-spectrum CBD products contain only trace amounts (0.3%) of THC, there is still a possibility that use of full-spectrum products could result in a positive test.
Why Choose Treadwell Farms CBD Edibles?
At Treadwell Farms, we do things a little differently—and for good reason.
Our CBD edibles are crafted from hemp grown right here in Florida, on a farm that’s been in our family for generations. From seed to shelf, we oversee every step of the process to ensure consistency, safety, and transparency for our customers.
Most gummies are full of high fructose corn syrup, synthetic flavors and colors (including those that the FDA is in the process of banning). Treadwell Farms gummies use a tapioca syrup and pectin base with only natural flavors and colors. When you look to purchase CBD gummies, you can apply the same standards you do when buying healthier food options.
When you buy from us, you’re not just getting a product: you’re getting peace of mind that your full-spectrum CBD is carefully grown and prepared, then tested by a third-party lab. Whether you're new to CBD or a seasoned user, our edibles offer a flavorful, reliable way to support your daily wellness journey.
